Clear Blue Technologies International, the Smart Off-Grid™ company and an Upside Member company delivering clean, managed, “wireless power”, began trading on the TSX Venture Exchange in Toronto in July 2018, leading to The Upside Foundation’s 5th exit.

“We’re incredibly excited to share our success with the community,”
said Miriam Tuerk, co-founder and CEO of Clear Blue Technologies. “As Clear Blue continues to grow, we look forward to continuing to build our relationship with the community by donating to charities and organizations that are meaningful to us and align with our values.”

Co-founded by Miriam, Clear Blue develops and sells smart Smart Off-Grid power solutions and cloud-based management services in both developed and emerging markets. Clear Blue has the ability to power, control, monitor, manage and proactively service solar, wind and hybrid-powered systems. These systems include street lights, security systems, telecommunications systems, emergency power, and other IoT devices. Miriam was the 13th entrepreneur to share her upside when she donated stock options in 2013. Upon the liquidity event, Miriam appointed a team of employees to select a charity on behalf of the company.

“We were interested in something related to conserving the environment, but also something global as both of these things fit well with our product and corporate philosophies,” said Susan Bantin, Director of Client & Partner Services at Clear Blue.

Ultimately, the team directed their donation to two Canadian charities focused on ocean conservation, ORCA and WWF-Canada.Oceans Research and Conservation Association (ORCA) is a joint project with the US-based charity Oceans Initiative, where a team of scientists on a mission to protect marine life, including whales, dolphins, sharks, salmon & seabirds in the Pacific. WWF-Canada’s Oceans work is focused on driving protection and sustainable management of oceans, including Sustainable Fishing, Protecting Habitat, Industry Solutions and Marine Protected Areas. The Upside Foundation enables early-stage, high-growth companies to allocate a small portion of equity to charity, so that when they sell the company or list on a public exchange, that company’s success can be shared with the community.

“We are so excited to watch one of our earliest members have grown their company to a point where they were able to make a significant donation to important causes in the community,”
said Jen Couldrey, Executive Director for the Upside Foundation of Canada. “We have so much admiration for Miriam, having the vision to make this commitment early on in Clear Blue’s lifecycle.”

Congratulations to Miriam and the team at Clear Blue for this exciting milestone and for embedding social responsibility into the company from inception.
